I hope that we all are able to go to church.
Feb. 14th - I really don't like Valentine's Day!!!

May 2nd - What a great weekend!!  We won't see weather like that again for awhile.
May 4th - May is such a great month as the kids are involved in concerts, recitals, award ceremonies, trips and other great events.  It's the time when we honor all the achievements that our kids have made throughout the year.  It's also a time when I realized that my kids are growing up and the make me a little sad.
May 11th - I saw Donny and Marie today at the Walmart in Riverview.  It was great to see two people that I've loved watching since I was a kid.
May 13th - 1 concert down - 3 more to go.
May 18th - I ate my lunch outside.  The weather is too nice to stay inside. I know that when we have great weather, our friends up north are not - sorry.  We need all the good weather we can get before the 100's are back to stay.
May 19th - I attended my son's last junior high band concert this evening.  They received a standing ovation with a extra song planned as an encore.  When the lights dimmed after their last performance, I was a little teary-eyed.  The concert was amazing!!!

June 21st - My niece and I went to see a Brooke White concert this evening as a part of the YW Conference that my daughter is attending.  She has an awesome  voice and I loved hearing her sing "Let IT Be".  I took lots of pics and videoed some songs, but left my camera with my daughter to take lots of pics until Friday.  It was a great evening.
June 24th - My daughter just came home from a YW Conference - "Time to Blossom".  She had a great time and it was so great to hear about her week and the things she learned.  I gave her my camera for the week and she filled it with 489 pictures.  She takes more pictures that I do.  I can't wait to hear about the stories that to with the pics.
June 28th - My younger girls noticed that there were clouds in the sky and ran into the coat closet to put on their coats.  The went outside to wait for the rain.  After 5 minutes outside, they headed back in and complained that it's too hot outside.  It's over 110 and clouds don't mean rain, at least they don't in AZ.  Funny girls!!
June 28th - How do you expect kids to listen to their parents when Tarzan lives half naked, Cinderella comes home at midnight, Pinocchio lies all the same, Aladdin is the King of Thieves, Batman drives at 200 mph, Sleeping Beauty is lazy, and Snow White lives with 7 guys.  We shouldn't be surprised when our kids misbehave, they get it from their story book!
June 29th - I'm playing in the rain, just playing in the rain - what a surprise rain storm.
June 30th - I'm worried about my Mesa neighbor friends who has lost power and are without AZ on this HOT day due to a SRP fire.  I hope that they find ways to cool off.

July 12th - We now own pet gerbils - I hope they don't cause any problems.
July 15th - I have been to a lot of places, but I've never been in Cahoots.  Apparently you can't go alone.  You have to be in Cahoots with someone.  I've also never been in Cognito.  I hear no one recognizes you there.  I have, however, be in Sane.  They don't have an airport, you have to be driven there.  I've made several trips.
July 16th - I was shocked that were no crazy line to see Harry Potter last night.  The theatre did have empty seats.  Did everyone see it at midnight last night??
July 24th - What a great rainstorm!  We need the rain, so keep it coming!!!
July 25th - My son started band camp today - I hope he has a great time.  Between 2 weeks of band camp, 1/2 weeks of scout camp, and youth conference - I'll only get a glimpse of my son before school officially starts.  He has a lot packed in the next 2 1/2 weeks of school.
July 29th - My daughter went to Youth Conference and my son had all day band camp, so we took the two younger kids up north.  We hung out with Grandma and Grandpa Pace up on the rim just north of Strawberry for the day.  We had such a great time and the weather was super nice, especially after the rainstorm.
Aug. 3rd - Jim and I went up to the rim and back today.  We dropped Josh off at scout camp.  The band is taking a 2 day break from band camp, so we are send Josh off to spend some time with the scouts.  Have Fun!!!

Aug. 10th - My house is so empty - I miss my kids.  I can't wait to pick them up and hear about their day.
Aug. 15th - I'm having a really really bad technology day.  My external hard drive with my pictures may have crashed and my cell phone doesn't work.  It's my worst nightmare losing my pictures!!!!!  I still have hope that we can same them.  I still have half of them on another hard drive, but not the last year.
Aug. 17th - I walked my son's high school schedule last night during their Open House.  His classes are really spread out all over campus and I got a good workout.  I was lost half the time and needed directions even with a map.  I have a new appreciation for high school kids, especially those who start off their morning at 6:30 with Marching Band and then return later that evening for marching band practice.  No wonder Josh is so tired at night!!
Aug.17th - Since I blog, I have online access to some pictures that could have been lost forever due to the crash of my extra hard drive.  Thanks for everyone who has encouraged me to start and continue blogging.  Another great reason to blog!!!
Aug. 23rd - I'm ready for the temperatures to cool off.   What is up with this record heat all week long?  You know that it's going to be a hot day when it's 92 degrees at 6:30 in the morning.
Aug. 24th - 15 years ago today, I became a mom.  Happy 15th Birthday Josh!!!!
Aug. 25th - I watched Josh perform the opener of his marching band show tonight.  It was great to see what Josh has been working on this past month, especially since he spends so much time with the band.  I really enjoyed the show tonight - Good Job Josh!!!
Aug. 27th - I attended the football game tonight with Josh while he played in the stands.  It was fun to watch the football team, cheerleaders, and the band perform tonight.  I could have done without the heat though - 110 degrees is jut too hot for he!!
Aug. 29th - I offered my 6 year old 7-UP and she said that she couldn't have any because she wasn't 7 years old. We had a good laugh about that!!
Sept. 1st - I watched the weather anchor announce that the rest of this week and next would be around 112 degrees.  I was wondering if my TV was broken, or it I was in a Groundhog Day cycle because we just had 10 days of this crazy heat.
Sept. 2nd -  Good Job ASU!!  Good Luck MHS!!
Sept 2nd - I thought my  cell phone was broken and even went to the Verizon store to have the look at it.  I was told that I needed a new one and that there was nothing they could do.  Danni looked at the phone and in a few minutes tada - my phone works now.  She should have that job at Verizon.  Thanks Danni!!
Sept. 5th - We found how unprepared we are w/o electricity!  We had enough flashlights, but didn't know how to deal w/o our lifeline.
Sept. 6th -  My day was completely booked today with so much to do.  It was not the time for the battery in my car to sopt working.  Thanks to my dad and sister for rescuing me, friends for picking up and taking my kids to their various activities, and wonderful husband for taking me through my car issues and reassuring me that tomorrow will be a better day.
Sept. 9th - It's so fun to watch kids play in the rain even if it's only 5 minutes.
Sept. 9th - Lightening and rain made an appearance at the football game and the  game was delayed.  The band went home and I missed the rest of the game.  I sure hope it was a good one!!
Sept. 10th - While the storm was raging outside, I was inside listening to the speaker at Stake Conference.
Sept. 11th - I moved to a different stake.
Sept. 18th - I had the opportunity to speak in church again.  If you're counting, that's twice this year.  The best part was Jim was right next to me this time around.  I get so nervous and worked up ahead of time, and then I'm calm during the actual talk. I'm so glad that it's over and I know that I'm safe for the next 6 months - hopefully much longer than that.
Sept. 22nd - My kids are so lucky to have cousins their age that live close by.  Josh has classes with 5 of his cousins, while Danni has classes/clubs with 2 of hers.     "Cousins by chance, friends by choice"
Sept. 22nd - My daughter tried out for the school play and got the role of the queen.  I'm related to royalty!!!   Good Job Danni!!
Sept. 25th - It rained for just about 5 minutes.  The sky is blue and the sun is shining, but there is a small grey cloud above our house that is providing us with a little Sunday Morning Shower.  That's such a great way to start off a Sunday!!

Oct. 4th - I've waited a long time for a cool night like this.  I hope we can say goodbye to the triple digits and hello to fall.
Oct. 7th- The Budget truck hauling the band equipment broke down while traveling to the football game at Skyline.  Some parents went to retrieve some instruments, water, and seat covers so the band could play during the game.  They didn't have enough instruments to perform their show.  Oh well!  The band kids had a great time and MHS won the football game, so it all turned out well.
Oct. 9th - I went to the ward camp-out with Jim and my 3 girls plus a guest.  We had a great time, even though we froze - 25 degrees!  I really missed my son who stayed in Mesa to compete in another competition to qualify for state, which they did.
Oct. 10th - I'm sad that the Diamondbacks lost their last game, it was a heart-breaker.  Good news, Mesh High won and ASU beat the Utes.  I could cheer for the utes, except against my school.
Oct. 13th - This has been a relaxing week - it's the calm before the storm.  Next week will be the craziest week that I've had yet.  There is so much going on that I could seriously use 5 extra hours each day to pull it off.
Oct. 19th - Angela had her 3 yr. Eval and IEP today.  Having a daughter in Special Education is like learning a foreign language - EET, FFB, OT, PT, DDD, AZIP, NCLB, LD,
Oct. 20th - It's Homecoming week and the last home game of the football season.  This is the last time that the marching band will perform their show at home.  They will have four competitions in the next 4 weeks.  The show is called "The Diamond" and Josh ends the show holding the diamond.  Come and check the show out and see how hard the band has worked this year.
Oct. 21st - Taylor had their choir concert last night.  I wasn't able to video the concert, so I just watched and listened.  It's such a treat to watch a concert w/o technology.  I just wished that there was a way we could go to a concert and leave with a video with good images of our kids participating.  It was a great concert!
Oct. 21st -   Emmy and I saw this unicorn-unigoat on a preschool field tirp and again a kindergarten field trip.  It pass away at the farm.
Oct. 23rd - Josh  competed last night at ASU Sun Devil stadium.  Watching Josh march on the field with the band was an incredible sight.  The MHS band did a great job and came is second place in their division.  They did win the music award for their division though.  After all the bands competed, the ASU Marching Band performed.  They are one of the best bands in the PAC 12 and they did an awesome job.
Oct. 30th - I woke up this morning with the news that I have a new niece born early this morning.  YAY!!
Oct. 31st - The MHS Marching Band had a great competition on Saturday.  They took first place in their division with awards in music, visual effect, percussion, and general effect.  They upped their previous score by 12 pts.  They are working hard toward state competition in a couple of weeks.
Nov. 3rd - This is a BiG weekend for my two oldest kids.  DANNI is in the school play tonight and tomorrow night.  She has worked super hard this past month on this play.  She is super excited for the performance.  JOSH has the 1st part of the state marching competition on Saturday.  If their band does well, they can continue on the2nd part of the competition.  i have a nephew in the play with Danni, two nieces in the marching band with Josh, and another niece that is going to state cross country.  GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!

Nov. 12th - Marching band season is over for MHS.  The band saved their best performance for the last.  It was an amazing experience to see Josh on the field.  He worked hard this season and is proud of his performance today.  The MHS Marching Band took 5th in state in their division.  GREAT JOB!!!!
Nov. 15th - With my husband's new calling, we have had the missionaries over 4 out of the last 5 nights.  They bring such a great spirit into our home.  In 4 years, my son will be old enough to serve a mission.  It's neat that Jim has a calling the will how Josh a glimpse of what his future can hold.  He was Scoutmaster for several years before Josh was a scout and now is is Ward Mission Leader several years before Josh can serve a mission.
Nov. 16th - Late late starts and early early releases.  I wish that I had those kind of school days.  There is only a 2 hour window when all of my kids are in school today.  I'd rather have the kids take the day off and spend the day with them.
Nov. 19th - GO DEVILS! GO DEVILS!
Nov. 22nd - My oldest daughter had to be a school 2 hours early to perform for the junior high principals before their early morning meeting.  It occurred to me that all my kids were in school by 7:40.  Last year, all my kids woke up at that time.  The elementary school starts early this year and Josh attends high school which starts earlier.  Josh no longer has A hour because marching season is over, so he had the latest start.  It's weird to drop Josh off after the girls.
Nov. 23rd - Angela is going to be in the school spelling bee.  I'm so excited for her!!!
Dec. t8h - The Christmas concert season for the Pace family begins to night with Josh's band concert.  In the next two weeks, we have 8 concert, 1 dance performance, and a spelling bee.  This is my favorite part of the Christmas season and I'm going to enjoy every minute.

Dec. 9th - Angela participate in the school spelling bee today.  This is such a huge accomplishment for her, especially since she has a language learning disability.  I was so thrilled for her to participate in a school activity with her peers.  Congratulations Angela!!!!  You did an amazing job!!!
Dec. 20th - Last year our family went to see David Archeleta sing with the Mormon Tabernacle choir and my parents love hearing him sing.  They were so excited to tell me the good news that he is going on a mission.  I loved watching him since he was in American Idol. What a good example to set aside something so important to serve a mission!!!
Dec. 31st - It's tough when there is a dance for 14+ and your daughter is 13 yrs. old and a lot of her friends are going.  It's tought to make the right decision - I'm proud of you Danni!!!!  She is going to the movies with her sisters!!!   She is awesome!!!!

End of 2011

The Paces had a busy year in 2011.  We have been on several trips to Lakeside and Las Vegas to support Josh at his Chess Tournaments.  We had great family trips to the local parks this year.  We love spending time together as a family and appreciate the moments when we are all together.

Jim has been busy working at Merchants Information Solutions and really enjoys his work.  He served in the Elder’s Quorum presidency for most of the year.  Recently, Jim was called to serve as the Ward Mission Leader.  This calling keeps Jim busy and on his toes.  It’s fun to have the missionaries over at our house.

Tami is busy taking care of the family and volunteering in the schools.  She has been really involved in the schools this year, especially with kids in 3 different schools.   She is currently serving as the Advancement Chairman in Scouts.  Tami loves to read, take pictures, scrapbook, and update the family blog when she finds free time.

Josh is in 9th grade and is a freshman in high school.  He competed in various chess tournaments in the spring and qualified to compete in the State Championship in Lakeside.  The chess club also took a trip to Las Vegas to compete in an international competition.  He really enjoyed playing chess with his teammates.  In the fall, Josh joined the MHS Marching Band and worked really hard.  They Marching Band won 5th place in their division and created a great show.  Josh has been taking Jazz Band clinics and will take the class in the spring.  Josh is working on getting his Eagle.

Danni is in 8th grade this year.  She loves school and it seems she is always there.  In the spring, she earned a Principal’s Award and was inducted into the NJHS.  This fall, she got involved in drama and had a part in the school play.  She is also on the Yearbook committee and goes to various events to take pictures.  She loves to take and edit pictures and make videos too.  Danni is working really hard on her Personal Progress program in YW.  Danni is also taking piano and dance again this year.

Angela is in 6th grade this year.  Angela played the violin in 5th grade but decided that she wanted to try the cello in 6th grade.  She is participating in a local chorus group with some of her friends.  She is also taking piano lessons this year.  Music is such a big part of her life!  A month ago, Angela participated in the school spelling bee.  She memorized all 13 Articles of Faith again this year.  Angela has grown so much this year.

Emily is in 1st grade this year.  She loves school and is learning to read.  Emily is finishing her last year of “Let’s Play Music” this year and is playing the keyboard with both hands.  Emily learned all 13 Articles of Faith this year too!  Emily loves to play outside and we often find her in the back yard playing.  She loves to play games with the family.  She is such a sweetheart and we love her!!!

We had a great Christmas this year!!  We wish you the best in 2012!!

Family Visitors

Matthew came for a visit.  It's been awhile since we've seen him.  He just finished basic training in South Carolina and is now heading to San Diego.  It was so great to see him and he really surprised my mom when he came to visit.

Matthew
Jeff and Lauren came to visit after Christmas.  Jeff was in a car accident just before his visit, so he wasn't able to do as much as we wanted. We really enjoyed their visit and enjoy getting to know Lauren a little better.  We went to a fancy restaurant to celebrate Jeff, Zach, and Lauren's Grandpa's Birthday.

Cortney came home for a visit too.  She is attending school in Logan UT at USU.  It was so great to see her and watch her family reunite.

Christmas Day

Christmas Morning started off with a door bell ringing.  Danni heard the doorbell and announced that Grandma and Grandpa Wall were here to visit us.  We quickly woke everyone up since we all slept in til 7:30.  We are lucky that our kids aren't begging to get up at 5:00 on Christmas morning.  It was fun to open all the gifts from Santa with my parents.
Since Christmas was on a Sunday, we dressed up and headed to church at 12:30.  We had a beautiful Sacrament Meeting filled with great musical numbers which added to the Christmas spirit.  It's not often that we have the opportunity to attend church on Christmas, so we need to enjoy the experience when it does come around.
After church, we headed over to Grandma Wall's for dinner and open presents.  The dinner was yummy thanks to my mom and Lisa.  Lisa is an amazing cook and everyone really enjoys the dishes she brings.  Grandma Wall just loves Christmas and couldn't wait to see her grand-kids' faces when they opened her presents.
The kids loved their Christmas gifts!!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is filled with so much excitement!!

We started off the day with a visit from my nephew, Matt, who has been stationed in South Carolina in the Navy and is transferring to San Diego.  It was so great to see and talk with him.

We had our Pace Christmas Party at Jon & Mindy's house this year.  The kids had so much room to run and play.  There is a T-swing next door that the kids loved to ride.  It was just as much fun to watch the kids ride, some even got a bit dizzy.
We made gingerbread houses, played fun games, ate yummy Mexican food, and had a great talent show.  I was so caught up in the talent show, that I forgot to take pics.  The talent show was so amazing!!!

At the end of the night, Grandpa handed out his Christmas Bears complete with a picture of Grandma Pace.

We headed on home with selected Christmas presents to open and Christmas traditions to follow in preparation for Santa to come.  We are also looking for the Tooth Fairy to make a visit tonight too.  That's a lot of visitors in one night.

Christmas Dance Show

Danni had her Christmas dance show called the North Pole Musical held at Mesa High. She danced to the song "Winter Wonderland" dressed as a nerd.  It's so fun to watch her dance and see her personality on stage. Jocelyn Malmberg sat with me during the performance and we had a great time watching the show and spotting the dancers that we knew.  It was such a great show!  Danni is a really talented tap dancer!!

Memorable Monday
9th Grade Schedules

Josh had an opportunity to take Jazz Band in the spring, so we talked to a counselor to arrange for him to take the class.  He dropped the Career Exploration class that they say that freshman need to take it, but it's not required for graduation.  The counselor was quick to suggest that he dropped the course in favor of Jazz Band, so we did it.  The counselor said that there are requirements that he can do over lunch, which made no sense to me.   Career Exploration is out and Jazz Band is in!!!

I wanted to compare his 9th grade schedule to mine, since it's Memorable Monday today.

Mesa Children's Choir

Angela performed with the Voices of Peace choir.  Together they put on a beautiful Christmas program twice.  Angela loves Christmas music and the lyrics touch her deeply.  She had tears and the rehearsal and both performances, especially when she sang "Away in a Manger" and "Silent Night".   She is such a sweet girl and hearing her sing Christmas songs with her peers just warms my heart.  I love watching her sing, she sings with her heart and it shows.  We love you Angela and are so proud of you.

Jazz Band Concert

Josh has been practicing with the Jazz Band since school started. They had clinics after school, and he attended just about every one of them. Mr. Quamo invited the Jazz band to perform at Mesa Junior High at their band concert. It was a great opportunity for the students at Mesa Junior High and Lowell Elementary to hear the Jazz Band perform. They played the following songs with each member of the band taking a turn improvising:
  • Watermelon Man
  • Work Song
  • Cantaloupe Island
  • Walk Tall
  • Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Good Job Josh!!!

Orchestra Concert

Angela had her orchestra concert tonight. Angela decided that she wanted to learn how to play the cello. This summer we traded her violin for a cello and practiced learning the notes and some songs. She attend intermediate orchestra instead of repeating beginning orchestra with a new instrument. She discovered that playing the cello was harder than she thought, but still tried her hardest. She really loves the cello!! It's so amazing to see her play in an orchestra with her peers

High Schools Orchestra Concert

After attending Angela's orchestra concert, I immediately thought of my high school orchestra concerts.  I really enjoyed playing in the orchestra during high school - it was a great experience.

Hosting Temple Lights

Jim and I hosted the temple lights again this year. It was a neat experience to walk around the temple grounds, see the beautiful lights, and feel the Christmas spirit. We hosted a couple of years ago and remembered the great experience that we had that night so we signed up again to host. It was neat to see so many families and missionaries walking around the temple. It was a great evening for Jim and I. I can't wait to bring the whole family to the temple grounds. We are so lucky to live so close to a temple.

A Visit with Santa

Spelling Bee

Angela participated in the school Spelling Bee this year. She came in second place in her class spelling bee and earned the privilege to participate school-wide. I was so thrilled to hear that Angela would able to participate with the peers at school. She went two rounds with the best spellers at Porter, which is an amazing accomplishment for her. She spoke clearly and confidently when she spelled the words. She showed great class when she was eliminated when she misspelled crabby. Who uses that word?? I am so proud of Angela and all her hard work. Spelling is one of Angela's strengths and to see her participate with her school peers and be honored was an amazing experience for her.
Congratulations Angela!!!!!!

Mesa High had their Christmas band concert and it was amazing!! They are a really talented bunch of kids. It was so cool to see Josh on the stage at Mesa High in his tux. How fun is that!!!!

Memorable Monday
Performing at the Malls

When I was in high school, we would travel to various malls in Salt Lake and perform Christmas songs.  I loved going to Crossroads and ZCMI mall.  These two malls used to be across the street from each other in Downtown Salt Lake.  These mall don't exist anymore, but I still remember the layout and the memories that I made here.  I remember performing at South Towne mall when it was still a small mall.  I loved performing Christmas songs and it added an extra touch to the Christmas season by making it more meaningful and memorable.  I'm grateful for a music teacher who arranged for us to perform at the malls during the Christmas season.
