Memorable Monday
Josh' Birth

Josh was my first baby and I didn't have have a clue about what to expect.  The doctor gave us clear instruction to follow, so I thought I knew but I really didn't.  He is the story of his birth.

I remember starting labor around 4:00 pm while working on the computer.  I started feeling some tightening in my stomach, so I call Jim to ask if he could come home instead of working some extra hours.  He came home super excited because he knew that we were going to have our baby soon.  The doctor told us that we should call him when the contractions were 5 minutes apart.  Soon the contraction were getting closer together and closer together.  They would be 3 -7 minutes apart.  We wanted to wait until they all 5 minutes apart.   I took baths and showers to help with the pain, until finally I told Jim that I wanted to go to the hospital.  When we arrived at the hospital, Jim pulled right up to the front door and wanted for someone to pick me up in a wheelchair - just like the movies.  I just got out of the car and went in to register.  After registration, the nurses came to check on me and realized that I was dilated to a 10.  All of the sudden, the nurses were running around getting me ready to have my baby.  Unfortunately, I was too late for an epidural.  Two hours of pushing, I delivered my first born son.

Josh turns 18

Josh's birthday was on  a Sunday, so we went to Joe's Farm Grill to celebrate his birthday.  We had a great time and it was fun to celebrate Josh's birthday.  He is 18 years old now - an adult.  He has grown up so much and I'm so proud of him.

Wilma Washburn

Wilma Washburn passed away and I will remember her sweet spirit.  I met Wilma at my wedding reception.  She was Myrna's cousin.  They gave Jim and I a quilt that was made by Wilma and her neighbor.  Just before Josh was born, we rented their house while they went on a  mission.  We found a home to purchase and moved in when I heard that Wilma's husband, Quinn, passed away while on their mission.  Wilma returned home without him.  Jim would often help her with her computer.  She used it often for family history and writing letters to family and friends.  We received many Christmas letter from her.  We will miss her!!
"Wilma Lillywhite Washburn was born Oct. 19, 1929 and was called back home to be with her husband, Quinn, children, Harold and Shirley, and grandson TJ on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Left to carry on her traditions of love are her seven sons: Robert, Walter, Verl, Glen, Brent, Brian and Roger. Her legacy will continue through 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. After raising her children, she lost her husband Quinn in 1997, and enjoyed lots of time with her posterity. She was later remarried to Allan Brooks in 2001, and he passed in 2012. Wilma will be missed very dearly by all who knew her. "

Memorable Monday
Heber Creeper

My side of the family went to Utah to attend the funeral of my Grandpa Shaw.  While we were there, we went to ride the Heber Creeper.  My kids were thrilled to ride on a train, even if it was really slow. It was so fun to spend the day with my parents, Deb's family, and Uncle Jeff.  Lisa and her family went to visit David Meyer and his family.

Priest and Teacher Camp-out

The priests and teachers went on a camp- out.  I always send a camera with Josh in hopes that I will get some great pictures.  He was so busy having fun that he didn't take any pictures.  Luckily for me, one of the leaders did.  I'm so glad that he got to go camping with the boys in our ward.

Taft's Mission

Taft Pace has been called to serve in the Fresno, CA mission.  We were unable to attend Taft's farewell in Utah, but we want to wish him the best of luck as he serves his mission.  He is heading off to the MTC today.  We can't wait to hear about all the adventures he is going to have there.

Moments with Taft

Taft is going to the MTC on Wednesday.   He has lived in Utah most of his life, so we didn't seem him as often as we would like.It was great to see him when we did. His family would travel to Arizona for a visit, often for Thanksgiving.  They even lived her for a short time. Taft played the clarinet and was in the same band program with Josh, even though they were not in the same band. We would travel to Utah and visit them.  We went to Lagoon twice with them.  We went with Grandma and Grandpa to the Beach House in San Diego.  Here are some pics of us hanging out with Taft.

Alice Carpenter

Our ward lost a dear sister - Alice Carpenter.  We worked together doing visiting teaching reports together when I was the Relief Society secretary.  I really enjoyed working with her.  I remember talking with her about ward boundary changes that might take place soon and visiting teaching changes would have to wait.  She moved into the Silvergate Park Ward and was released as the visiting teacher supervisor for our ward.  A couple of years later, she moved back into the ward after another ward boundary change, but we never working together again in a calling.  She was always helping other sisters in our ward.  She was an amazing lady and she will be missed.

Laurel Retreat

Danni went up north with the Young Women in our stake for a Laurel Retreat.  Here are some pics of their trip.

First Day of School

It's that time of year again, the first day of school.  This is the last year that all four of my kids will attend public schools, since Josh is a senior and this is his last year.
Ready of not, school starts today
Josh, Danni, and Angela attend Mesa High.  This is going to be the first year that I've had all three attend the same for school for more than a quarter.  It's going to be great to have all 3 in the same school, even though I'm really nervous about sending Angela.  She knows where her classes are and is ready to go.

Mesa High Students
Emily is my only girl still at Porter.  She has a real good friend, Olivia, who is two grades ahead of her.  For years, I brought Olivia home from school.  Many times, she came over to my house until her mom picked her up. These two act like sisters sometimes.  I'm so glad that Emily has someone that goes to Porter with her.  This is the last year that this two will be in the same school until high school.
Emily and Olivia
Here are my kids ready for school.  They allowed me to take my traditional "Back to School" pics and I couldn't be happier.  I'm going to miss them while they are at school, but I look forward to the concert season that is right around the corner.  Have fun kids!!!
Josh is a senior.
Danni is a junior.
Angela is a freshman.
Emily is in 4th Grade.

4th Grade Teachers

Emily went to Porter to meet her 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Bufkin.  Her classroom is the same as Josh's 4th grade classroom.  It's funny because her 3rd grade classroom was the same as Danni's 3rd grade classroom.
