Angela's 1st Birthday

Angela will turn 15 sometime this weekend. She was born on Leap Day, so she gets a Birthday every four years. Her first Birthday was when she was 4 yrs. old. It happened to be a Sunday, so we celebrated it at home. Angela is okay with having a birthday every four years, just as long as we celebrate her quarter birthday. Haha!!

New Beginnings

2015 Mutual Theme - “Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day”

We had our New Beginnings tonight with the YW.  The food was yummy and was decorated with the sail theme.  We learned more about the YW program and the new girls coming into YW.  It was a great evening and I'm so glad that my girls and I went with my girls.

College Credit

Danni is taking her second semester of sign language.  She is earning college credit for this semester and last semester through MCC.  She earned chemistry credit last year through Rio Salado.  When she finishes this semester of school, she will have 10 hours of college credit - 4 credits of chemistry and 6 credits of language.  How awesome to get college credit in high school.  I'm so proud of Danni!!!

Regionals

Josh tried out for regionals this year on the bass clarinet.  We found out that that he was selected to first chair bass clarinet in the honor orchestra.  He had a really high score, almost 80 pts. higher than last years score with the clarinet.  It was great for him to go to regionals in both the clarinet and the bass clarinet.

Josh received the music for orchestra and noticed that he would play the bass clarinet for Russian's Sailors Dance and the clarinet for Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet.  I was thrilled to hear him play Russian's Sailors Dance, especially since I played that song in high school.  Josh was hoping for more bass clarinet parts, but that wasn't the case.  He realized that the clarinet part was really hard music, harder music than he has played before.  It practiced hard on that piece.  The concert was amazing and the kids received a standing ovation.  I was so impressed with the talent that these students.

Aubrey chose to do choir instead of orchestra.

Seussical at the MAC

Mesa High was invited to perform their musical at the MAC.  What a huge honor for them!!  They performed Monday night and Tuesday night in front of approximately 1,000 people each night, plus a matinee show for the junior high kids. The MAC is a fabulous venue for these kids to perform.  They nailed it the both times that I saw it.  I saw this musical 6 times when they did it at Mesa High and 2 times at the MAC,  I loved this musical and the kids at Mesa High did an amazing job.  When I was leaving the theater one night. some ladies were saying to each other how awesome and professional play this was.  They said that it didn't seem like a high school musical.  What an amazing compliment that was!!  I'm so glad that Danni had this opportunity to perform at the MAC.  I'm going to miss seeing this production live.  I'll have to look a the videos again to relve the Seussical magic.
"HOLY MOLY--THEY BLEW IT OUT OF THE BALLPARK LAST NIGHT! Every actor was spot on! It's amazing what they can do, and the IKEDA at the MAC is an incredible venue." Mrs. Sandy Stones

Red Measles

The news have been reporting about the measles epidemic the past few months that started in Disneyland.  Parents haven't been giving their children shots in fear that their children will get autism.

My mom gave me the MMR shot, but I wasn't able to get  another shot because my mom was on bed rest with Steven.  I caught the measles and was really sick.  My mom felt really bad that she couldn't get me that shot.  My brother Jeff caught the measles too.  I had to miss a valentines day party because I was sick.  It was around this time when my Great Grandma Wall passed away and my mom had to stay home with sick kids along with the bedrest she needed with Steve.  Every thing worked out and Jeff and I recovered.  When I went to school, I received the shot.  That was a difficult time for my mom and I really felt bad about that..  When I applied to ASU, I needed to prove that I had the MMR shot, but I proved to them that I had the red measles instead.  They accepted that and I went to ASU.  When I was pregnant with Danni, the doctors told me that I was not immune to Rubella, which can be very dangerous to the unborn baby if the mom gets it.  So, after I delivered Danni, I got the MMR shot.  I shouldn't have just got the shot before I went to ASU.

Until We Meet Again

I received a text from my mother-in-law telling that her sweet sister had passed away.  She was 83 years old. I met Lucille a few times, but I didn't know her well.  I read in her obit that she had a large family.  I know that my mother-in-law will miss her. but we know that she is in a good place.  I know that Myrna will see her sister again.

Three days before I received Myrna's text, I watched the news about a 21 year old boy who was murdered. Grant attended Mesa High and was involved in drama and student council.  His death greatly affected the community, especially those who knew him personally.  I met Grant a few times when I went to QT.  This story really broke my heart.

I think back to the time that I lost my grandparents.  My Grandma Wall died when I was 12 years old.  She was very sick and we knew that it was a possibility that she would die soon.   My Grandpa Wall had a stroke when I was 14 and we watched him struggle with his health in a rest home for many years. He died almost 10 years later. We loved Grandpa Wall and know that he is with Grandma Wall.  My Grandpa Burbidge was killed in a jeep accident when my mom was 3 years old.  I know that his death was hard to understand for his family.  I can't wait to meet him after this life. My Grandma Shaw died when I was 13 years old.  She was battling cancer and winning until a blood clot claimed her life.     I was sad to hear that my Grandpa Shaw died in 2000.  He lived a long, good life.  Death is difficult to understand and move forward. It doesn't make it easier if you know that death is coming, it takes great faith to accept death.  I'm grateful for the Plan of Salvation and the comfort I receive that I will be united with my loved ones.

Priest and Laurel Dance

Both Josh and Danni went to the Priest and Laurel Dance this year.  This year's theme was "Time Warp" and dress was casual.  My kids weren't thrilled at first, but they got into it.    Silke had a full day planned, so she couldn't start the date until 7:00 and his group was done with their plans. Danni and Tarod spent most of the day competing their One Act and didn't find a group that could work with their schedule either.  So, Josh and Danni formed their own group.  They headed off to In-n-Out, but they were closed.  So, they headed to Chick-fil-A.  They took some pictures, which came out grainy but somehow seem to fit the Time Warp theme.  After dinner, they headed straight to the dance.  They both said that they had a blast!!!!
Josh asked Silke and they dressed up as Millennium Kids - it was a unique idea and so easy to do.

Danni asked Tarod to the dance.  They dressed up in the 80's - workout style.  I think they had the most fun dressing up.  Danni totally looked the part, complete with leg warmers.

Valentine's Party

Emily's Hope Club went to the Citadel and made valentines with some the residents living in their facility.  It was neat to see children interact with the elderly while making crafts.  We made extras and delivered them to those who couldn't come to make crafts with us.  There was a parent who brought a therapy dog with her.  The residents lit up when the saw the dog and love petting it. It was so sweet to see how a dog could brighten someone's day.  It was a great day of service that the children provided.  I'm glad that I was there to see it.

I Love Football

Arizona just hosted their 3rd Super Bowl game.  It was great to see Arizona host the game and all the events leading to it.

I remember a time before I married Jim, when I would watch NFL football games every Sunday.  I loved football and knew every team in the league and some of their key players.  I really liked the San Francisco 49ers with Joe Montana.  Jor Montana was an amazing quarterback and his passes to Jerry Rice were legendary.  When Montana retired, Steve Young became their QB, from BYU.  Steve Young and Jerry Rice were fun to  watch too.  Now, I don't watch football on Sunday, except a few plays here and there.
