Memorable Monday
Looking back at 1969

As the year ends, I thought it would be cool to look back at ten year that I was born - 1969.

  •  On July 20th, just days after I was born, Astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the Moon.  "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
  • The Beatles gave their last live performance. and made their last album.
  • President Nixon became president on January 20th.
  • In August, the Jackson Five made their first debut
  • Boeing 747 and Concorde first flight
  • Sesame Street debuts on television.
  • The Academy award for Best Picture goes to "Midnight Cowboy." John Wayne wins for Best Actor in "True Grit." Paul Newman and Robert Redford star in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." The Best Supporting Actress goes to Goldie Hawn in Cactus Flower.
  • Arpanet, the birth of the internet, connected the first universities in the United States. Researchers at four US campuses created the first hosts of the ARPANET, connecting Stanford Research Institute, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, and the University of Utah. (First connection on September 2)
  • Boeing 474 and Concorde make the first flights
  • The first ATM was installed in the US
  • Cost of gallon of gas - $0.35
  • Cost of a stamp $0.06
These are just a few of the positive things that happened in 1969.
